26th-Nov-2009 11:02 pm - sloooowing down.
Yatta!
YES!!!

It's almost December!

College apps = pretty much finished.

All done with everything I need to finish this break, so Friday/Saturday/Sunday, I'm finally freeee! :)
16th-Nov-2009 06:42 pm - lunchtastic.
too cool.
Aaaah, I'm so excited for tomorrooooow! So, the local Literary Society holds these fancy luncheons for people in which they have guest speaker authors. Dr. Linn was given tickets for four students to attend, and I was one of the students she chose! We're meeting Michael Gross, author of Rogues' Gallery: The Secret History of the Moguls and the Money that Made the Metropolitan Museum.

Hm, classes are going well. :) Getting along decently. I'm catching up in calculus, which isn't that bad anymore. Jane Eyre; I owned that shit! Got four hours of sleep for two days in a row, but I finished it and it was good. I need to read Hamlet now, though. But its a play, so its okay. I'm worried about my bio grade... I have really good test scores and display detailed knowledge of the coursework, but my grade's like a roller coaster; I go through good and bad spells, ones usually dependent on whether I turn in work or not. How sad. @_____@ but in tests, I own that shit too. :) And band is band. The CCHS rivalry game was Friday. I crashed with the baritones again- they're like awesome awkward second cousins twice removed! Haha. I always have a fun/interesting time hanging with them, cause they're cool. We just entered CIF finals, so games are called week by week. We just found out we've got a homegame this Friday, oiii. Ah well. Piano recital was on Sunday, and it also went excellently. I'mma try to post video. Eventually.

Haha, so band practice today. I was feeling whimsical again, so I wandered down to the field a bit early and just plopped on the ground. Then my friend walked by and she plopped on the ground next to me. Then I flopped facedown, lying on the grass, and she laid down on my back, and another person wandered by and we invited him to lie down with us, and then another person joined, and then another... we made quite a lovely pile of people lying on the grass. :D And then the drum majors were like, "OKAY guys! Warm up!" and we didn't move. (We were making idle conversation.) "... okay guys, warm up!" and we kind of raised our heads, and were like, "uh, do we have to move now?". She nodded, and were were like, "DDD: aaugh, oy." But yeah, that was rather zen.

To Do:
-UC Essays
-Calc HW/Rewrite due Friday @_____@
-Bio lab due Wed
-Gov ch 20 due Wed
-Read Hamlet by Wed
-Band recording soooooon

And daaaamn, mother! I think I know how to go about submitting the application to my top choice university! You don't need to keep nagging me. .>____________<

Goddamn. Writing a college essay is harder than you thin k.
12th-Nov-2009 09:35 pm - oy veiii.
why bother.
So, I went online to find some handy dandy calculus help. Found a really awesome video tutorial site with short, 10 min. explanations.

I still fell asleep.

8th-Nov-2009 04:56 pm - Catch Me.
too cool.

This is my favorite song of the moment.

Demi Lovato, you're so talented. Its hard to imagine that you're part of Disney.

Catch Me- Demi Lovato )

7th-Nov-2009 05:11 pm - No Such Thing.
too cool.
I had no idea this was a John Mayer song!

1st-Nov-2009 03:46 pm - listmaking.
:3
Happy November! A quarter of the year is already over... wow.

Homecoming's over. Halloween's done. Settling into work mode.

I've grown really fond of making lists. I still don't like keeping an agenda, but every day, I go home and make a list of what homework needs to be done. I've also grown really fond of my Sunday work afternoons. :)

What's Going Down:
-Jane Eyre dialecticals due; 10/35-50ish done
-UC app: everything but essays done! one essay rough finished, the other outlined- they'll be done and taken for proofreading tomorrow
-French horn concert season!!! I'm happy. And I have my full range back. So I am ready.
-Frigate meetings. We need to work on talking to classes. D:
-My bio grade is like a rollercoaster... if I'm not getting nearly perfect scores, I'm bombing stuff. Aah. It's bad... the only thing keeping me from an A is turning in assignments completed well. Hm. But I've been on a good streak lately.
-Marching band is almost over. Final game (thus far) on Friday; need to finish blocking the show tomorrow!
-My calculus grade is scary. And not in a good way.
-Latin quarter test tomorrow... I need to study like mad.
-Gov test coming up tooo.
-String quartet needs to really get moving, fo reals. :<

I met next year's incoming horns. I like them! They amuse me. :) It makes me a bit sad, though; I wish they were in my section this year, so I could have 'them little'uns'  to boss around, haha. (My sister's been reading Lord of the Flies...). Freshmen horns would have been nice to have around and make things interesting. :)
28th-Oct-2009 10:18 pm - fame and k-boybands
too cool.
</lj-embed>
OKAY SO WOW I TOTALLY FORGOT THAT I REALLY REALLY NEED TO SEE FAME. DDD: Ah, damn. Now this is gonna bother me until I actually have some downtime to hang out. :( I think... I'll just wait til it gets to the dollar theater and watch everything I wanna see at once or something. But I love this clip. Kay Panabaker's all... olderish, hah. I haven't seen her since she was on Disney a few years ago; seeing this, I was all, "Hey! I know who she is!!! :O" The lead guy is Asher Brooks, who apparently is part of a boyband.

I laughed when I found out.

Their music video is so... boyband-ish. Reminds me so much of Korean boybands (Super Junior? xD). That, and a boyband member getting an acting/singing feature in a movie? Such A KOREAN BOYBAND KIND OF THING. Hahaha.

Along with fame, The Vampire Assistant is also looking very good! If I had read the Cirque du Freak series when I was younger, I think I would have loved it. Unfortunately, its too easy for me to enjoy fully now. The movie, though, is more visual/dialogue, so I think I'd enjoy it more. And it looks all funny and quirky and sarcastic, too. I
------

I feel like I have no time for anything! I'm really antisocial this year... I never want to go out and spend time with friends on weekends, because I'm always like, "Aaaah I can't afford to waste time on social stuff because school school blah blah yadda yadda". November's this Thursday, the quarter ends on Friday, UC apps are open for submission in four days aaaah. And a 40-quote dialectical journal on Jane Eyre. :( Having down time makes me feel uncomfortable because there's so much I should be doing. I've also been falling asleep lately, ugh. But that's probably because I've been staying up til one or two these past few nights. I dunno; once ten or eleven rolls around, I always hit this really weird productive streak.

Ah well. Such is life. :)
11th-Oct-2009 08:23 pm - Currently listening to.
too cool.

So that boner post has been sitting at the top of my page for the last week? Ahaha, totally not intentional! x))) (Seriously; it wasn't.)

Anyways! Two songs you really should listen to! :D

------

Owl City- Fireflies
(aargh embed doesn't work)

Well, I recommend anything by Owl City, really. One of the few musical artists who truly writes poetry within lyrics. Most of the time, its the melody and sound that catches me, but listening to Owl City, I really stop to listen and comprehend how he phrases things. Man, its artists like Epik High and Death Cab for Cutie and Hem and Owl City that really make me appreciate poetry. Most of the time, I don't really get what's so special about it, but there's just something about how he phrases it.

Also, he reminds me of The Rocket Summer! The Rocket Summer's music has the best piano hooks! And its so catchy that I feel so much more upbeat listening to it.

--

Train- Hello, Soul Sister
(aaargh, yet again, embed doesn't work)
I love the video concept. :) That, and note the ukulele! The song too is catchy.

------

Lots of not much and much of a lot has gone on all at the same time this past week. 8) Took my SAT subject tests (Eng. Lit, Math II, Biology M). English went well-ish; good, but not as much as it could have. Everyone was freaking over Math II because it was a lot of stuff that the upper math kids have forgotten, but actually, it went really well for me, because I DID remember all that stuff! 8D The only problem was time management, though. Knowing how to do all the problems isn't as effective when I can't FINISH all the problems. :( Bio... I had the molecular part down really well! But I didn't review for the general bio questions. Lots of Mendelian genetics, and I owned that stuff. A lot of basic general knowledge stuff, although I did forget where fertilization of the egg occurs within the human body. (It took me a while to remember if it was in the fallopian tube or uterus, and being female, shows quiteeee a bit of FAIL amirite?). But over all, decently well. And thus, I am done! With SATs! For.... ever! (Unless I decide to take my subject tests again in the next four days.)

Wednesday was a minimum day; I ended up ditching the entire day of school altogether though, and listened to Taylor Swift while catching up on Calculus. Hm, had an emotional breakdown in Latin the day before, but that's another story for another day entirely! But let's not talk about that now. Also had a not-sectional and stuff, which was all good. :)

I've decided to drop Senior Arts Seminar, too.

Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine; aka Megaten Online. I... kinda am dropping Mabinogi. Sorry! DDD: I dunno; its interesting, but not interesting enough for me to devote time to it on a regular basis. Although, since I pretty much never log on, its not that surprising, though. xDD I'm kind of tired of the whole fantasy feel. Megaten looks so pretty, though!  The atmosphere of the game is so different- I''m interested. The client size is a whopping 1.3 gigs, though. Dx I have a strong feeling that the graphics will be a killer, though, so I bet I'll try it and it won't even work, or I'll decide I hate it anyways. Dxxx But its better to try, than sit around and wonder! Haha. Official game site is ovar here.

I want to be a cow for Halloween.

WHOO YEAH QUICK LIFE UPDATE OVER! now back to calculus. :(

5th-Oct-2009 07:11 pm - Boners.
headbonk
I got four boners during band practice today.

Just so you know.

---------

SO! Despite the incapacitating fever I underwent this Sunday (The one Sunday I had actually set out to work ahead homework wise! D: Wryyy life?) I'm feeling a lot better today and ready to function and shiet.

BUT NOW I HAVE AN ASSLOAD OF HOMEWORK TO DO. ALL BY TOMORROW. ):

To Do List:
- Gilgamesh Dialecticals, due Tom (30/30 quotes chosen; 0/30 actually typed up and completed)
- Calc assignment due tom (0% actually understood)
- AP Gov assignment due tom. After two years with my teacher, I've come to expect 2-3 hours per assignment. ):
- Latin translation. Because today being the day that she confronts us about our non-participatingness is just perfect.
- Bio quiz, in which I realize that I'm falling behind
- Finish rewriting the final section of the Totoro duet by tonight
- Figure out Frigate stuff for lunch's meeting oy vey
- Baaaand on top of everything else. Although really, I'm actually on top of things for once ! 8D Yeaaaah!

aaaah,life. @____@

Oh yeah, the boner story:

So, we were doing parade marching and I was a section of one and thus, kinda drifting around waiting to see who needed a spot filled and so I was liek, "HAY BARITONES, DO YOU NEED ANY HOLES FILLED" and they were liek, "NO" and I couldn't really tell what was going on in the trumpet row and then I was liek, "HEY TROMBONES, HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE CAUSE I'M A PARTY OF ONE TODAY :(" and they were liek, "NO WAAAAI, WE HAVE NINE PEOPLE!!!" and we were liek "SWEET, TWO FULL ROWS!" and so their section leader was liek, "HAY GUYS, RISA NEEDS FOUR BONERS!" and I was liek, "lulz WOW, AT THE SAME TIME?!" and everyone else was liek, "lulz lulz lulz" and so this other guy was all, "I'LL BE ONE OF YOUR BONERS" and were were liek, "OKAY COOL HAY GUYS WE NEED THREE MOAR BONERS OVER HERE LULZ LULZ LULZ" and you can imagine how the rest of the story goes.

Bahaha, those trombones. x) Funny guys (and girl).
3rd-Oct-2009 09:17 am - College apps.
why bother.
AAAAAH I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M DOINGGGGG!

o_____________________o

Sh-should I apply to schools in NY on a whim? :x Cause it looks like so much fuuuuun, and if I'm accepted, I'll visit the campus then decide if I want to go, and if not, then oh well. But it'd be a waste. (Rochester, Columbia, NYU)

And I don't know if I should go to admissions interviews, either! USC is taking them, but I don't even know how badly I want to go there. It'll increase my chances of admissions, though. Which is good.

And I need to look at the Claremonts. And Stanford. Oy. ._.

Wh-whatever, I'll just go fill out my UC application.

(ETA: http://www.socgen.ucla.edu/Vision.html. This looks great.)
27th-Sep-2009 02:26 pm - AP Bio lab write ups...
why bother.
D: How painful.

They're like tooth extractions- you know they're necessary, but it's still slow and agonizing.

DDD:
26th-Sep-2009 10:42 pm - Epik High- "Falling Blossoms"
Friday Night Lights
Epik High always has the most captivating lyrics.

26th-Sep-2009 09:34 am - Wacom Tablets
too cool.

My Wacom isn't working. It no longer hovers- it's constantly stuck on "click".

D:

Looking at new tablets anyways. The Intuos4 Medium looks reaaaaaal nice, but I'm hesitant to shell out $315. Another option is the more dated Intuos3 for $230. Whereas the Intuos3 was released six years ago, the Intuos4 was released this March. I might as well just shell out the $85 for the most recent tablet so it will last longer. Hm.

Then there's always the lower level tablet, the Bamboo Fun. But looking online, it appears to be nearly $300 for a fourth of the sensitivity of the Intuos4...? Weird.

Of course, this is all assuming that I can't find a quick fix for my current one. Worst case scenario, I shell out $30 for a new stylus and that doesn't fix the problem.

23rd-Sep-2009 06:10 pm - Anthropology.
Friday Night Lights
I want to major in anthropology

As much as I want to be a doctor, I don't know if I could stand ten million classes worth of sciences to get my degree. I mean, I could... but I don't know how much I'd enjoy it.

Although science majors help a lot in entering med school, a science major isn't even a requirement.

I was looking at majors online (and watching Bones) when all of a sudden, it hit me: "Anthropology is the study of all aspects of human beings. Anthropologists look at everything from people's culture, their language, their biology ,and their physical and archaeological remains. Anthropology is natural major for students interested in exploring both their own culture and other cultures. (source)". Its a study of life itself, of how humans developed over time, of cultures and traditions and human nature. And now that I think about it, isn't that what I've always been interested in this whole time? Its the study of people, in all aspects.

And anthropology isn't that far from the science field. (Look at Bones! 8D Haha. Using her biological know-how to analyze, well, bones, working for the Smithsonian as a scientist solving murder mysteries. And like I said, I can deal with the sciences/biology. If working with live people doesn't work out, I could take a look at forensic anthropology. Still related to people and bodies and stuff... only the people are kinda, uh, dead. But then I wouldn't even have to worry about them dying on me! Because they already have!!! lolol.) But seriously, I think this could work. Like in this article about an anthro-turned-med-school major.

I dunno. I'm really digging it right now. There's still a bit more of research on it I want to do as well as talk with a few people (ie teachers/counselor), but I dunno. I think I'm gonna roll with it. :)
